Q6 Media was born out of a need for creative expression. In 2018, while studying at the University of Alabama, Jake found himself craving a creative outlet. With a background in music but no way to play drums in a dorm room, he turned to photography, inspired by his dad. This passion quickly evolved into videography, where he discovered even greater creative freedom.
As Jake started posting his videos online, his longtime friend Travis West, whom he met in 3rd grade, recognized the potential and suggested creating a brand. Together, they came up with the name Q6, short for “Quarter 6,” a nod to 256, the area code of North Alabama where they both grew up. In 2019, while shooting an event, they met Ryan O’Malley, a budding short-form comedy creator, who would soon join as a co-founder. The three of them, Jake, Travis, and Ryan, began working together, focusing on event and night-life content around campus and steadily building a reputation.
In 2020, Travis felt a calling to serve in the U.S. military and left the company. With Jake and Ryan at the helm, they decided to take a bold step and relocate to Austin, Texas, in 2021. This move marked a significant turning point, shifting their focus from music and event content to business-oriented media that delivers tangible results.
One of their first major successes in Austin was creating an ad that helped sell a company, proving their unique blend of creativity and business acumen. With Ryan’s expertise in short-form content leading the way, Q6 Media has achieved over a billion organic views and continues to help clients tell their stories and achieve measurable success, all while maintaining a vibrant and enjoyable company culture.
