A podcast studio is a room designed around one specific show. Sightlines, camera positions, lighting, acoustic treatment, audio, and the set all follow from the format and the number of people at the table. Q6 Media designs studios with 3D renders, builds them out for clients, and shoots on location. It does not rent a studio by the hour.
Start with the room, not the gear
The first questions are physical. How big is the room, how high is the ceiling, what does it sound like empty, where does the noise come from, and where can cameras go without a door in the shot? A small room can work well for two people and badly for four. Fixing a room is easier than fighting it in the edit for years.
Design it before you build it
A 3D render with the real seating plan, camera positions, and lights shows sightline problems while they are still cheap to fix. Look at it in a vertical 9:16 crop as well as the wide shot. On The HORRORble Podcast, short-form clips have out-viewed the long-form YouTube episodes more than ten to one, so the vertical crop is where most people see the set.
Cameras and sightlines
A video podcast usually needs a wide shot, a single on each host, and an angle for guests. Place cameras where people naturally look, so conversation reads as eye contact. Plan for the most people the format will ever seat, even if most episodes have fewer.
Lighting
Key light shapes the hosts, fill controls contrast, backlight separates them from the set, and the set gets its own light so it does not go flat. Consistency matters more than drama: episode 40 should look like episode 4.
Audio
Each person needs their own microphone and their own track, the recording needs a backup, and someone should monitor on headphones for the whole session. Acoustic treatment controls reflections so the microphones pick up voices rather than the room. An edit can only do so much with bad audio.
Set and brand
The set is the show’s identity on camera. Color, materials, signage, props, and how the brand reads in a thumbnail all belong in the design stage. A horror show and a founder-led business show want very different rooms, and both should be recognizable in a thumbnail at phone size.
The parts nobody sees
A producer position with a view of every camera and audio level, redundant recording, a storage plan for the footage, labeled cabling, and a startup checklist so every session starts the same way. A new crew member should be able to run the room a year later.
Studios Q6 Media has built
Q6 Media built the studio for Spike’s Car Radio in Los Angeles and runs production on set, cutting every episode into a long-form release plus clips. As of September 17, 2026 the show’s YouTube channel has 826 videos, about 45.5 million lifetime views, and about 52,000 subscribers. Q6 Media also built the set for The HORRORble Podcast, which launched from an empty room on October 1, 2025 and now has about 840,000 followers across five platforms.
Frequently asked questions
How much space does a podcast studio need?
Enough to seat the most people the format will ever have, place cameras where the hosts naturally look, and light the set without the lights appearing in the shot. A two-person show can fit a small room. A four-person show with guests needs a real room and a plan for every chair before the first episode.
Should a podcast studio be designed in 3D first?
It helps. A render with the real seating plan, cameras, and lights shows sightlines and vertical crops before anything is built. Q6 Media designs its studio builds with 3D renders.
How many cameras does a video podcast need?
A wide shot plus a single on each host is the usual minimum, with a guest angle when the format has guests. The count follows the seating plan, not the other way round.
Does Q6 Media build studios outside Austin?
Yes. Q6 Media built the studio for Spike's Car Radio in Los Angeles, and the team also shoots on location.
Does Q6 Media rent studio space?
